PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — A Tennessee woman accused of hitting two teens on a scooter with her truck and then fleeing the scene was taken into custody in Pinellas County this week.
Kelsie Renea Moorman, 25, of Memphis, was taken into custody on Monday following the Oct. 12 crash on Route 19 in Pasco County, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement. She was arrested on two warrants for leaving the scene of a crash with serious injuries. Each count had an assessed bond of $25,000, police said.
According to police, Moorman was driving a Chevy pickup truck north on Route 19 when she struck a motorized scooter headed eastbound on Hudson Avenue. At the intersection, police said the two vehicles collided before Moorman fled the scene.
The driver of the scooter, a 16-year-old Hudson boy, and his 15-year-old male passenger from New Port Richey both suffered serious injuries and were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Both teens remain hospitalized in serious condition.
According to police, Moorman eventually fled to Tennessee, where she was located in Memphis through a collaboration between the Florida Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
