Lee County commissioners voted March 3 to move forward with safety improvements on the remaining two-lane section of Burnt Store Road from Van Buren Parkway north to Vincent Avenue. The plan calls for rumble stripes and 4-foot paved shoulders but removes previously proposed passing lanes that would have required additional drainage design and permits. County officials said eliminating the passing lanes allows work to move forward faster. Construction could begin late this summer and take about nine months. The rumble striping is estimated to cost $140,000, while the shoulder work with striping is projected at about $4.9 million.Â
