AARLCC Commemorates 60th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday

To mark the 61st anniversary of Bloody Sunday, the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) will present two dynamic programs celebrating civil rights history and African American cultural traditions.This program, part of CommUniversity’s Black History Saturday School, features Dr. Regis M. Fox discussing African American vernacular traditions as vital expressions of creativity, resistance, and survival.

“Selma Is Now” Exhibition (on view through June 27, 2026)
The exhibition revisits March 7, 1965, when marchers were attacked on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Restored photographs by James ‘Spider’ Martin capture the day’s brutality and resilience, offering context for ongoing voting rights challenges.A Gallery Walk at 2:00 p.m. will feature AARLCC Regional Manager Doug McCraw, historian Tameka Bradley Hobbs, and Senior Archivist Erin Purdy.
