JACKSON, Miss. –The Florida A&M Rattlers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 4-3 victory over the Jackson State Tigers on Saturday.
Zoryana Hughes (5-3) got the win for Florida A&M (10-12, 2-1). The southpaw went seven innings, giving up three runs, zero earned, on five hits.
Offensively, the Rattlers were paced by Aniya Canty, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run, a walk and three RBIs. Keeleigh Spooner furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Florida A&M got an RBI single from Spooner, scoring N. Lee from third base.
The Tigers then tied the ballgame at one before the Rattlers came back to reclaim their advantage in the fourth inning. Florida A&M scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Canty, scoring Michaela Fernandez and Amya Ramos, which brought the score to 4-1 in favor of the Rattlers. Jackson State put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Florida A&M still held on for the 4-3 win.
