JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Brown softball (1-9) dropped its final game of the weekend to Jacksonville (15-11) by a score of 12-7 in a rain-shortened contest on Sunday (March 8) afternoon.
Macy Borowski hit her first-career home run and drove in three runs. Jasmine Hsiao and Reagan Crosthwaite both finished the day with two hits as Brown picked up nine hits on the afternoon.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Jacksonville scored six runs to break the game open. Three-straight singles brought in the first run before Macy Borowski got a lineout and a groundout to put two outs on the board.
With two outs, a double to left scored two and a single in the next at bat plated the fourth run of the frame. The Dolphins followed that with a two run shot just inside the left foul pole to make it 6-0.
Brown picked up singles in the third from Berlinger and the fourth from Thompson but could not get the runners into scoring position.
The Bears clawed back into the game in the top of the fifth. Burns led off the inning with a double but a strikeout and groundout put two outs on the board. Crosthwaite pinch hit and singled to score Maddie Stubenrauch, who pinch ran for Burns.
The inning continued with a single by Jasmine Hsiao and Thompson walked to load the bases. Maggie Foxx singled to bring home two runs to make the score 6-3. Borowski stepped to the plate and on the second pitch the junior saw, crushed her first home run of the season over the center field wall to tie the game.
Jacksonville responded in the bottom of the fifth with three runs, highlighted by a two-run triple to make the score 9-6.
Brown used another two-out rally to pick up one more run. Berlinger walked on four-straight pitches and Crosthwaite singled to put runners on first and second. Hsiao singled to left to score Berlinger making the game 9-7.
The Dolphins pushed two more runs across in the bottom of the sixth, making the score 12-7.
With lightning in the area, the game was called due to weather after six innings.
UP NEXT
Brown will stay in the Northeast next weekend as the Bears will play four game at Boston University with two against the Terriers and two against UMass Lowell.
