GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Alachua County commissioner Ken Cornell on Tuesday hopes to get an update on animal services. The HR director announced an investigation is underway into conditions at the shelter.

Also on Tuesday, Union County School board discusses difficult decisions over cutting the budget, including what they call “Restructuring” Lake Butler Middle School and Elementary School.

After months of meetings, feedback, and recriminations, the Alachua County School Board on Thursday holds a final vote on new school district zoning boundaries. The plan calls for closing four elementary schools.

The three-day Wildflowers Music festival kicks off at a new venue in Melrose. Many in the community had asked county leaders to keep it from happening but they approved it and then supported it with tax dollars.
