WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW sophomore infielder Mason Hughes lifted UNCW to a series sweep at Jacksonville, and a 3-1 week overall, by hitting .500 (6-for-12) for the week.
For UNCW, it was the first non-conference series road sweep since 2020, when the Seahawks swept Kentucky. Jacksonville entered the series receiving votes in the national polls.
Hughes opened the series with a career game, collecting four hits, scoring and knocking in three runs. His first three knocks were infield hits, and in the ninth inning, he belted his first career homer.
Against East Carolina, Hughes came off the bench to go 1-for-2.
Through 14 games, Hughes is hitting a robust .414, has scored 11 runs and knocked in five.
The Seahawks host Charleston Southern on Tuesday at 6 p.m., to open a week that includes the conference-opening weekend with visiting Elon on Friday.
