A Longwood man has been arrested after a crash involving a pedestrian on Friday evening in Altamonte Springs, which left one person dead, according to police.The crash happened just before 7 p.m. on March 6 along eastbound State Road 436 near Wymore Road.Altamonte Springs police say that around that time, a driver crashed into a man in the road. When officers and Seminole County Fire Department crews arrived at the scene, they found the man lying in the road, unconscious.Firefighters pronounced the man dead at the scene. Investigators say the driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Adam Bass of Longwood, stayed at the scene. During the investigation, officers reported smelling alcohol coming from Bass’s breath and noted he had watery eyes and a flushed face.Police say Bass agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises. However, while officers were placing him in handcuffs, investigators say he raised his arms and attempted to flee before officers guided him to the ground and secured him.Due to the severity of the crash, Altamonte Springs traffic homicide investigators were called to the scene.Based on the investigation, police say they found probable cause to charge Bass with DUI manslaughter for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and causing the fatal crash.Bass was also charged with resisting an officer without violence.He was taken into custody and transported to the Seminole County Jail, but has since been released on bond.The crash is under investigation.
