DIXIE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – Bobby Bowden Field is moving to Dixie County, the sod that is!
Dixie District Schools announced the move on social media.
The sod at FSU’s Doak Campbell Stadium was cut out to make room for the Professional Bull Riders event this weekend. But, it’s not going to waste!
The school district said the sod is now on an alternate field being grown and seeded to “ensure optimal quality” before it’s installed in Bruce Boyette Stadium.
The new playing surface is expected to be ready just in time for the first home football game of the season.
“This is a big win for our student‑athletes who will participate in our football and soccer programs. Athletic Director Thomas has worked around the clock and made several trips to Tallahassee coordinating with FSU Athletics to secure timelines for the project,” Dixie County Superintendent Mike Thomas said. “The biggest challenge for us was we had less than a 24‑hour timeline to make sure we got the sod, as PBR rodeo events will be next Friday and Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium.”
