While Coconut Grove prepares to say goodbye to Lokal, Kush Hospitality is preparing for a new chapter in Wynwood.
Founder Matt Kuscher has announced that Kush will reopen in Wynwood this summer following a major, four-year construction project. The opening will bring the beloved burger-and-craft-beer spot back to the neighborhood where it built a cult following.
“We are beyond, beyond, beyond ecstatic to share the exciting update that Kush is finally opening in Wynwood this summer,” Kuscher says in the video shared on Instagram.
The new Kush in Wynwood will highlight the “greatest hits” from Kush Hospitality’s restaurants over the years.
Kush Is Coming Back to Wynwood
The new Kush will open inside a building Kuscher says the company purchased several years ago. This will give the hospitality group something increasingly rare in Miami’s rapidly changing restaurant landscape: long-term control of its space.
“Since we own that building, my goal and our goal every day is to recreate that magic,” Kuscher says.
The new Wynwood location will have a full liquor license, which means fans can expect craft cocktails in addition to great beer. Plus, the menu will highlight the “greatest hits” from Kush Hospitality’s restaurants over the years.
The new space will include a bar, commercial space, and residential components.
More Than Just a Restaurant
According to Kuscher, the new space will be designed as more than just a restaurant. He says it will be a larger Kush destination that includes a bar, commercial space, and residential components.
Plus, the project will also incorporate affordable housing supported by the Omni Community Redevelopment Agency, part of a broader development vision for the property.
For longtime fans of the original Kush Wynwood, the reopening marks the return of one of Miami’s most recognizable burger-and-craft-beer spots. This is a welcome change of pace for a neighborhood full of heartbreaking closures. Kuscher says the goal is to build something that lasts for decades. “We want to be a Miami staple, an iconic place for the next 50 years and beyond,” he says.

Kuscher confirmed that staff from the Grove restaurant will move to the new Kush location once it opens.
Lokal’s Staff Will Move to the New Kush
The transition will also include employees from Lokal in Coconut Grove, which is scheduled to close this summer after 15 years. Kuscher confirmed that staff from the Grove restaurant will move to the new Kush location once it opens. “Our people remain our greatest priority,” he adds.
As construction wraps up, Kuscher says he hopes longtime customers will help bring the spirit of the original Kush back to Wynwood. “See you in Wynwood this summer,” he says.
