Steve Moore was elected as chair of the University of North Florida Board of Trustees in December.

Moore was first appointed to the board in 2022 by Governor Ron DeSantis. He was recently reappointed by DeSantis to another term that will run through 2031, according to the UNF website.

As chair, Moore recently announced he is assembling a search committee that will help select UNF’s next university president during the last UNF Board meeting.

Outside of his role on the board, Moore serves as president of The Vestcor Companies, a Jacksonville-based real estate development firm. Vestcor and its owner, John Rood, sold the Flats at UNF to the university in 2014, as reported by Spinnaker.

Moore is also a member of the Duval County Research and Development Authority, the state agency that oversaw the development of First Coast Technology Park at UNF, according to Vestcor’s website.

UNF Ties

Moore is an alumnus of UNF. He earned both a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in accounting and a Master of Business Administration from the Coggin College of Business.

According to a press release, Moore has served as Assistant Dean of the Coggin College of Business before his BOT appointment.

Former Chair Kevin Hyde

The previous chair of the UNF Board was Kevin Hyde, who served three terms as chair before stepping down. During last December’s BOT meeting, Hyde told Spinnaker he stepped down to allow Moore the ability to serve as chair throughout the entire presidential search process.

“My term as Chair was scheduled to end in early 2026. During my tenure as Chair, I have presided over two presidential searches. I know how the Board Chair plays a unique and very involved role in that process, including appointment of the search committee. With the expected departure of President Limayem to USF, the Board of Trustees will again be selecting a new president. I felt it best that the new Board Chair have the opportunity to guide the full process from the outset,” said Hyde.
