CAPE CORAL LEADERS ARE LOOKING TO EXTEND THE COMPLETION DATE AND SPEND MORE MONEY. THE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY IS CONSIDERING A $339,000 CONTRACT FOR THE PALM TREE SQUARE PROJECT AFTER THE CITY BACK IN 2024, APPROVED FOR PLANS FOR THE SITE TO BE DONE THIS YEAR. THIS FUNDING WOULD COVER FINAL ENGINEERING DESIGN, PERMITTING AND CONSTRUCTION OVERSIGHT. PALM TREE SQUARE WOULD BE A PUBLIC PLAZA WITH TREES. A FOUNTAIN AND GATHERING SPACE. The vacant lot across from the old golf course along Palm Tree Boulevard in South Cape could soon become Palm Tree Square, as city leaders consider a new contract amount and extended timeline for the project.The Community Redevelopment Agency is considering a $339,765 contract for the Palm Tree Square project, marking a significant increase from the previous contract amount of $59,865. The total project cost after amendment is not to exceed $399,630. Originally, the goal was to have the project completed by 2026, but as of now, no construction has started.The funding would cover final engineering, landscape design, permitting, and construction oversight, along with extending the completion date. Palm Tree Square is planned to feature a public plaza with palm trees, a fountain, and a gathering space. If the funding is approved, changes could begin soon, with the new completion date slated for February 2027.The Cape Community Redevelopment Agency meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday.
