GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse team continued its first road trip of the season, falling 18-9 at #6 Florida on Wednesday afternoon.
Though sophomore Lela Greene netted her first hat trick of the season, #6 Florida scored ten unanswered goals to create a deficit too deep for Penn to overcome, taking the game 18-9.

How It Happened
The back-and-forth scoring started three minutes in, with junior Welch and Florida’s Hamilton Clark scoring within 16 seconds of each other. Florida took its first and only lead of the first half with seven minutes left of the opening quarter. Junior O’Brien closed out the first with back-to-back goals to give the Quakers a 3-2 lead.
The Gators opened the second, tying the game up at three off Gabbi Koury’s first tally of the season. The Red and Blue exploded after Koury’s goal, netting four straight goals courtesy of Zaremba, Le, Berkery, and Greene to push Penn ahead 7-3 with 7:19 left of the half. Florida slashed the Quakers’ run four minutes later, followed by back-to-back player-up goals to put the game at 7-6 at the break.
Florida continued to apply pressure to open the second half, as Kaitlyn Davies scored ten seconds into the quarter, trailed by another goal a minute later from Caroline Hoskins to give the Gators their first lead since the opening quarter. Midfielder Green netted Penn’s only goal of the quarter two minutes in, as Florida scored five unanswered goals to end the quarter leading 13-8.
The final 15 minutes of action continued to stay in the Gators’ favor as they continued their goal-scoring run with five more goals to lead by ten with 3:45 left of the period. Sophomore Greene completed her first hat trick of the year to cut the run, but it was too late for a Quaker comeback as the Gators took the battle 18-9.
