WHAT:
Orange County Government will break ground on its new animal shelter on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 9 a.m. Located at 2769 Conroy Road in Orlando, the new building will serve as a symbol of the county’s mission to provide the highest standard of care and service for all animals, staff members and Orange County residents.
Budgeted at $49 million, the new shelter will be some 123,419 square feet with house for 265 dogs and 200 cats. Dogs will be housed on the first floor and cats on the second floor, with the entire building equipped with air conditioning. When finished, the new shelter will be Florida’s largest animal shelter.
Mayor Jerry L. Demings, District 6 Commissioner Mike Scott, and Animal Services Division Manager Diane Summers will deliver remarks as part of the groundbreaking ceremonies.
