CAPE CORAL, Fla.–A driver is on the run after crashing into a pole, causing a power outage for hundreds in Cape Coral overnight.

The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. Thursday morning on Gator Circle. The car flipped on its side, landing just inches from a front door.

Cape Coral police informed WINK News that the driver fled the scene after the crash.

Just a few hours ago, 261 people in northeast Cape Coral were affected by power outages.

Check the latest on the Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) power outage map.

The LCEC map indicates that power should be restored in the early morning hours.
