TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBS12) — On Wednesday, the Florida House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 1220, which includes an amendment that would allow highway speed limits to increase to 80 mph, 10 mph higher than the current speed limit on interstates.
The bill received strong support, passing with an 87-23 vote, and is now headed back to the Senate to vote on an amendment.

Key changes in the bill include:License Plate Stickers: The bill also eliminates the requirement for license plate validation stickers and mandates that vehicle registration renewals be recorded electronically.Speed Limit Increases: The amendment increases the maximum allowable speed limit on limited access highways from 70 mph to 80 mph, and on other highways outside of urban areas from 60 mph to 70 mph.Noise Regulation: Another provision prohibits drivers from intentionally revving or accelerating their vehicles in a way that produces excessive or unusual noise.License plate cameras: The bill would also allow the use of automated license plate recognition systems on private property, with some data security guardrails.
If it passes in the legislature and is signed by Gov. DeSantis, the law would take effect on July 1.
