JetBlue is expanding service at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport as the airline looks to take advantage of Spirit’s financial issues and grow its footprint in South Florida.
The carrier will add flights to four places, including Jacksonville, showing that no route is too small to ignore. What was initially limited service for spring break will become a year-round daily flight starting June 18, the company said in a March 12 statement.
Increased frequencies for JetBlue flights from FLL
Tampa will also see an additional flight, taking it up two year-round, daily flights from FLL. That goes for Dallas Fort Worth International as well.
International travelers stand to gain, too.
Flights between Fort Lauderdale and Cartagena, Colombia, will increase to daily year-round from four times a week.
All changes take effect June 18 except for Cartagena, which commences June 11.
“These additions reflect the strength of demand we’re seeing in Fort Lauderdale and our continued commitment to building depth in our South Florida focus city,” Daniel Shurz, senior vice president, revenue, network and enterprise planning, JetBlue, said in a statement.
“We’re proud to continue investing in Fort Lauderdale … ensuring it remains one of the strongest and most connected cities in our network,” the executive said.
The airline noted that over the past year, it has added 20 destinations from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood.
In 2025, JetBlue served 6.6 million passengers at FLL, second only to Spirit Airlines. That accounted for about 21% of all travelers there, although the figure was a 2.9% decline from 2024.
In January 2026, JetBlue was still in second, behind Spirit, but showed a 16% increase in number of passengers from January 2025.
Leaving the Miami airport
Last year, JetBlue went all in on FLL by pulling out of Miami International Airport. While in 2021, the airline had as many as 14 daily flights from MIA, it cut back gradually. In September, the airline eliminated its last flight there. JetBlue cited poor financial performance for the decision.
The airline was also slowed down by the 2024 ruling of a federal judge in Massachusetts that blocked an attempted merger with Broward-based Spirit, citing anti-competitive laws.
Shortly after saying last year it would pull out of MIA, JetBlue started adding flights from FLL.
