The city of St. Pete Beach is considering raising parking costs to up to $7 an hour for certain times of the day, under a new proposal.

A gunman is dead and two people are hurt after a shooting at Old Dominion University this morning, the Virginia school said.

4. Armed man who rammed vehicle into Detroit-area synagogue dead
Police say a man armed with a rifle who rammed a vehicle into a Detroit-area synagogue today was killed. That’s according to a source who spoke to the Associated Press. 

5. SpaceX pushes back Starlink launch; no jellyfish effect to be seen
Now that SpaceX pushed back its Friday Starlink launch to later in the morning, there is no chance to see the jellyfish effect.

BOLTS vs. RED WINGS | The Tampa Bay Lightning, who have lost six of their last seven games, are back on the ice tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

ATTRACTIONS | Universal Orlando announced this week that its Volcano Bay Nights after-hours event will return for summer 2026. The popular waterpark’s “exclusive party after dark” will take place on the following select nights from May 3 through Aug. 21. Guests can look forward to special in-park experiences, an exclusive menu, access to popular Volcano Bay attractions and more at the limited-capacity event, Universal Orlando stated.

PINELLAS ADOPTION CAMPAIGN | Pinellas County Animal Services is launching a new “Spring Free from the Shelter” adoption campaign to get its longest-waiting pets a fresh start. From now through May 31, it will waive adoption fees for dogs and cats who have been in the shelter’s care for more than 60 days. All adoptable animals are spayed/neutered and come with a microchip with free lifetime registration, age-appropriate vaccinations, a one-year Pinellas County pet license, a bag of pet food and a toy or treat. Pretrial conference for lawsuit brought by Elon Musk against OpenAI, alleging that leaders violated the organization’s founding mission as a research lab by shifting to a for-profit structure for their own benefit. Musk was a co-founder and co-chair of OpenAI in 2015 and claims that he contributed $40 million to the project. He is seeking unspecified monetary damages from ‘ill-gotten gains’ by OpenAI.
