The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says that the officer involved is expected to make a full recovery.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman was arrested after she crashed her truck into a patrol vehicle with an officer inside, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday.

JSO says that at around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, an officer was working a lane closure on I-10 west, with his vehicle parked and emergency lights flashing.

The woman, Cate Kitay, 29, is accused of driving her RAM 2500 pickup truck “straight into” the officer’s patrol vehicle shortly after.

According to JSO, the crash was so forceful that it had pushed her truck into an unoccupied utility truck that was parked on the shoulder.

The officer was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.

“But let’s be clear: this could have ended in tragedy,” JSO says. “An officer was inside that vehicle. Construction crews were working nearby. And a drunk driver plowed straight through a clearly marked lane closure with emergency lights flashing.”

Kitay was arrested and charged with careless driving, DUI and three counts of DUI property damage. She is held on a bond of $3,500.
