To the editor:
It’s time to change the Cape Coral Yacht Club plan.
The Cape Coral Yacht Club is a quaint and special place to go for our residents. There is no good reason to go gang busters on this project. The current plans price tag is out of control. Why not make it easy, make it simple. The Yacht Club beach and the property in general isn’t that big to try and build something to attract more visitors. This beach is very family oriented for the permanent residents bringing their kids and grandkids.Â
•  Ideas
Only have one restaurant, the Boathouse, on the premises. Having two invites more people who will be coming for a party of alcohol and crowds with this family-oriented small beach. We don’t want people acting like they are at a college party getting out hand around children.
•  Community center
Move it to another property, like the old golf course. People come to use the beach, not a pool. A nice splash park would be great.
•  Marina
I do like the plan for that. And it could be started now.
•  Revenue
If you’re looking for more money for the city, paid parking is an easy way. I really don’t think people want to look at a four-story building and more parking spaces would open up without a four-story building. Although, the permanent residents here should get priority of savings. Parking stickers for permanent residents could be a annual sticker for parking at a cost of say $75. For those who do not live here as their primary residence other passes could include monthly, weekly, or just daily metered parking.Â
The council should listen to their constituents. Not everything in Cape Coral needs to be structured toward non-permanent residents. We are tired and broke paying for those who do not pay taxes in Cape Coral.
