Aiding a teenager slumped on the ground having a medical episode this month led to North Miami Beach officers learning that a Miami Gardens man had been raping her for at least the last two years — a discovery that her mother had long since made, authorities say.
Junior Pericles Cher-Frere, 23, is facing charges of lewd or lascivious battery on a minor and delivery of a controlled substance to a minor, his arrest report read. As of Thursday afternoon, he remained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
On March 4, North Miami Beach police officers rushed to a 911 call of a teen lying on the ground at a home. Paramedics treated her there, after which she and her mother went to the North Miami Beach Police Department for an interview, the report read.
Earlier in the day, the young girl, whose age was not released, met with Cher-Frere. He gave her marijuana, which she used, and then “engaged in sexual intercourse” in his car, police said. The girl remembered feeling “hazy” and unable to think clearly after.
Police said she told them she and Cher-Frere met at least three years prior when she was 13 and he was 20, authorities said. She described their connection as a “dating relationship” in which they later had sex.
Her mother revealed that she knew of the illegal relationship two years prior. When she discovered it, she texted Cher-Frere informing him that her daughter was underage and ordered him to end all contact with her — he said he knew and would stop, which was a lie, police said.
Cher-Frere was arrested by North Miami Beach police’s tactical investigations unit on Wednesday at a Miami Gardens home. In a police interview, authorities said he confessed to meeting the girl when she was 13 years old at a party and some months later “began to have sex” with her.
He continued to allege that the only reason he continued the illegal act was “due to threats [the girl] was making to expose their sexual activity,” police wrote in his report.
Officers informed him that regardless, “legally he should not have been having sex with the underage [girl].”
