Coral Gables Trust — one of the fastest-growing trust and wealth management firms headquartered in Florida and a leading provider of wealth management, trust and estate, and financial planning services — has announced that Richard DeNapoli, JD, LLM, CFP, has been promoted to CEO, effective Jan. 1.

DeNapoli succeeds industry veteran Donald A. Kress, who stepped down as CEO and will now serve as executive vice president of the company, chair of the Trust Administrative Committee, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board.

In his new role, DeNapoli will oversee the firm’s overall operations, strategic direction, and continued growth, reporting to the board of directors. He also retains his current position as president of the company. As part of the leadership transition, managing director Andrea Genden has assumed the role of chief fiduciary officer.

DeNapoli brings more than 23 years of experience in law and trust services, including over a decade with Coral Gables Trust where he previously served as its managing director and chief trust officer. His expertise spans legal strategy, trust administration, client service, and business development, making him a natural successor as part of the firm’s long-term succession planning.

Prior to joining Coral Gables Trust, DeNapoli managed a successful solo law practice focused on estate planning and real estate before earning a Master of Laws (LLM) in Estate Planning from the University of Miami. He then joined Northern Trust Company, where he served as a trust and investment officer. Throughout his career, he has been deeply engaged in professional leadership, having served as president of the Estate Planning Council of Broward County and as a member of the Trust Executive Committee of the Florida Bankers Association. He is also an active member of the Florida Bar, serving within both the Tax Section and the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section, and currently participates on the Bar’s Probate Rules and Government Advocacy Committees.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, DeNapoli has a strong record of public service. He served as a Florida Real Estate commissioner from 2007 to 2013, a Broward Soil & Water Conservation District supervisor, and has been a state committeeman for Broward County since 2016. In 2024, he was elected as a town commissioner in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea.

“Richard’s appointment reflects the strength of our leadership pipeline and our commitment to thoughtful, long-term succession planning,” said Bill Pruitt, chair of the board of directors of Coral Gables Trust. “His deep fiduciary expertise, proven leadership, and dedication to our clients position Coral Gables Trust for continued growth and excellence.”
