TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee man pleaded guilty to federal firearm charges stemming from a 2025 shootout, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Joseph Williams, 63, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Court documents show Williams was involved in a gunfight at Carter-Howell-Strong Park in April 2025. During the shootout, Williams was shot in the foot. Law enforcement found blood and a firearm in the backseat of his girlfriend’s car which matched shell casings recovered from the park shooting.
According to court documents, Williams was arrested in November 2024 after a traffic stop. Officers found a firearm barrel sticking out of his shorts. He bonded out of jail prior to the April shooting.

Williams had several previous felony convictions, including state convictions for armed robbery and federal convictions for armed bank robbery and using and carrying a firearm during a crime a violence, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
He faces at least 15 years in prison on the federal firearm charges.
According to court records, Williams is currently serving a state prison sentence for gun and drug charges related to the April shootout.
