JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The American Legion in Jacksonville was destroyed this afternoon as straight-line winds and possible tornadoes moved through Onslow County.
Catie Ulrich-Rentz says she lives in an apartment complex next door to the Legion on Broadhurst Road. “It was insane to hear, it was so loud,” Ulrich-Rentz told WITN.
The American Legion building in Jacksonville was destroyed as storms passed through Eastern Carolina on Thursday.
Jacksonville police don’t believe anyone was inside the building, but emergency crews were still going through the building.
The National Weather Service says straight-line winds destroyed the building.
