Community gathers at North Florida Fairgrounds for walk supporting MS awareness and cure

  • March 14, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Over a hundred people gathered Saturday morning at the North Florida Fairgrounds for the fifth annual Tallahassee- Big Bend Walk for Multiple Sclerosis, an event aimed at raising awareness and funds for people living with the disease.

Hosted by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the walk brought together individuals, families and supporters from across the community.

Multiple sclerosis, often called MS, is an unpredictable disease of the central nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves.

Kimberly Rhodes attended the event with her daughters. She was diagnosed with MS in 2011 and said the support from the community is meaningful.

More news out of the Big Bend:

“Sometimes are more difficult than others. Sometimes I’m perfectly healthy, I’m okay, I’m able to walk, but it has been difficult at times,” Rhodes said. “For the most part, I’m still here. This is a great feeling to have multiple people come out not only with the symptoms or disease, but those who have supporters.”

The event also featured vendors and health resources for attendees.

MS ambassador and walk coordinator Natasha Acoff said the event is designed to increase awareness and encourage people to prioritize their health.

“It’s important that people know about MS because a lot of people don’t know,” Acoff said. “We just want to continue to bring awareness, visibility and raise funds and donations for our local efforts.”

Acoff said a local MS support group meets every second Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Domi Station.
