Though Miami University’s undefeated run came to a disappointing halt in the Mid-American Conference tournament quarterfinals on March 12, the 20th-ranked RedHawks still expect to hear their name called on Selection Sunday.
Miami holds maybe the most unique resume the NCAA selection committee has ever seen. Miami completed just the 25th undefeated regular season in men’s college basketball with a 31-0 record, but their strength of schedule was 296th out of 365 Division I programs. Predictive metrics like KenPom don’t favor Miami after many close wins against inferior opponents, while resume metrics like the newly minted Wins Above Bubble (WAB) have the RedHawks safely in the field.

Ultimately, the expectation among bracketologists is that the RedHawks will be rewarded for regular season perfection with a place in the field of 68. Where that puts Miami in terms of seeding is an open question, with a trip to Dayton for the First Four still very much in play.
Here’s where the Miami RedHawks stand leading up to the bracket reveal at 6 p.m.
Miami RedHawks resume metrics
When the selection committee works to decide which teams warrant at-large bids to the big dance, there are seven key data points on each team’s resume. Those metrics are BPI, KenPom rankings, KPI, NET, Strength of Record, Torvik rankings and Wins Above Bubble (WAB). In addition to these statistical data points, members of the committee also use the eye test, record breakdowns and strength of schedule.

Only 37 teams earn an at-large bid, with the other 31 slots being filled by the automatic qualifiers who won their conference championship.

Miami (OH) RedHawks expert seeding projections
As of March 14th, most bracketologists seem to agree that the Miami RedHawks have earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament field thanks to an undefeated regular season. Unlike previous teams to accomplish the feat, the RedHawks are nowhere near the conversations for a 1-seed. Due to a weak strength of schedule and an early exit from the MAC Tournament in Cleveland, there is broad agreement that Miami will be an 11-seed when the bracket is revealed.

However, four 11-seeds are sent to Dayton to compete in the First Four while two more are admitted directly into the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Here’s where several prominent Bracketologists have the RedHawks landing.

∎ CBS Sports: 11-seed vs. projected 6-seed BYU (West Region).
