A driver accused of a fatal hit-and-run in Miami appeared before a judge on Sunday.

Deshawn Daniels, 41, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, Miami-Dade jail records showed.

During his court appearance, a judge gave Daniels a $65,000 bond.

According to Miami Police, the incident happened on Friday, shortly before 3:30 a.m. in the area of Northwest 12th Avenue and Northwest 28th Street.

An arrest report said Daniels was driving his vehicle southbound on Northwest 12th Avenue heading to 28th Street.

The victim was crossing 12th Street just outside of a marked crosswalk when Daniels struck him with his vehicle and fled the area without helping the victim, the report said.

Surveillance video showed the pedestrian being struck by an SUV near a gas station. Police said the vehicle didn’t stop.

Miami Fire Rescue responded and rushed the pedestrian to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he later died.

After the story aired on the local news, an anonymous person arrived at the police station and said there was a vehicle that matched Daniels’ at an apartment in Miami, the report said.

When officers arrived at the apartment, the report said, the vehicle matched the one seen in the surveillance video and also had damage that was consistent with the hit-and-run.

During the investigation, Daniels turned himself in at the Miami Police station and admitted to driving the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run, the report said.

Police identified the victim as 62-year-old Antonio Sanchez.
