Driver struck in the head by massive oak branch in wind-fueled Martin Highway incident

PALM CITY, Fla. (CBS12) — High winds turned a picturesque drive into a nightmare on Martin Highway when a falling tree pierced a truck’s windshield, injuring the driver.

According to deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, a Toyota Tacoma traveling westbound on Martin Highway near Salah Drive was facing heavy head-on winds when a gust caused a large rotted oak tree to fall directly onto the car.

The impact sent large limbs through the windshield, striking the driver in the head, according to MCSO.

The driver was subsequently transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
