The Lost Continent attraction remains closed, but guests can now access more of the exterior queue than in recent years.
Additional Queue Area Opens in Lost Continent

On a recent visit to Universal’s Islands of Adventure, we noticed an unexpected change in the defunct Lost Continent area of the park.
Poseidon’s Fury, a walkthrough attraction which closed in 2023, has been entirely blocked off by a barrier preventing guest access to the queue area for some time now. You can see how the area was previously walled off below – notice the brown barrier blocking access to the queue in the center-left of the image.
The brown construction wall has been removed, allowing guests to freely walk deeper into the exterior queue.
The attraction’s main entrance remains roped off by chain link stanchions, but the removal of the general purpose construction barrier allows guests to get much closer to the attraction’s primary facade than has been possible in recent history.
While small in scale, this change could signal much larger work coming soon to the Lost Continent area of Islands of Adventure. There has not been an official update from Universal on the nature of the impending work, but rumors abound about what updates or entire retheme effort may be in store for this defunct section of the park.
Back in December, Universal filed a permit for new coaster construction in this area which mentioned the developer behind two of Universal Orlando’s favorite coasters, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and Jurassic World VelociCoaster, both of which are also in Islands of Adventure.

The Lost Continent Replacement Speculation
Speculation has swirled about Universal’s plans for the Lost Continent following the closure of its main attractions in the early 2020s. One theory is that, due to its location and the fact that its Merlinwood area was already absorbed into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade in 2010, The Lost Continent could be turned into an extension of that land.
Another popular rumor is that Universal will expand on its Nintendo partnership and transform the land into an area based on Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda franchise.
Following news of Pokemon-themed experiences coming to Universal theme parks around the globe, there is more recent buzz that the replacement for Lost Continent may be themed to the world of Pokemon, further expanding the company’s partnership with Nintendo following the opening of Epic Universe with its Super Nintendo World area.
