Federal Reserve officials have commenced their two-day meeting to discuss whether to adjust the benchmark interest rate that often influences borrowing costs for Americans — as the conflict in the Middle East presents a more complicated economic picture for policymakers.
The Federal Open Market Committee is widely expected on Wednesday to leave the current rate of 3.5%-3.75% unchanged, with the CME Group’s FedWatch saying Tuesday there was a 98% likelihood that a majority of voting members will opt to keep the rate unchanged.
