TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Time is running out to join the Madness, and bracketologists are hard at work as the first round of the NCAA tournament kicks off at noon on Thursday.
While many at work probably spent some time on Wednesday filling out their bracket, there is some good news for managers and employees alike — don’t worry about productivity loss the next two days.
FSU business administration professor Wayne Hochwarter said concern about March Madness distraction is overblown and that the modern worker faces all kinds of distractions every day.

He says managers who ban bracket talk might insult their employees.
“It’s almost like you’re treating people like children, that they don’t know how to do their job. And there’s no kind of micromanaging that’s going to work. And this is an example of it,” he said.
He suggests managers lean in on the basketball fun.
“People just need to enjoy it and have a good time, and just get more conversation going about it. Have a day where everybody wears their favorite team shirt or their hat or have little side wagers or, you know, who picked the biggest upset,” he said.
