Now over a week into the NFL’s free agency period, what has been the best move made by the Jacksonville Jaguars, and what’s been the worst?
The Jaguars have been one of the quietest teams in football up to this point, making only one outside free agent addition, signing running back Chris Rodriguez.
GM James Gladstone recently explained the big reason behind that, and it has to do with 2027 compensatory draft picks. I would also guess that the Jaguars’ tight salary cap situation isn’t helping things either.
So there isn’t a ton to evaluate in terms of moves, but there is one very important re-signing that the Jaguars made, and the lack of moves made at one position group could be challenging to overcome.
Jaguars best free agency move: Re-signing Montaric Brown
Brown took a big step forward last season, showcasing his abilities to start on a weekly basis and perform at a high level while doing so. He allowed a completion rate of just 54% on 68 targets and held opponents to just 10.4 yards per catch.

Brown also flashed impressive ball production, coming away with two interceptions and forcing nine pass breakups.
By re-signing Brown, it solidifies the cornerback position for the Jaguars. He and Travis Hunter will start on the outside, while Jourdan Lewis will handle the slot snaps. Jarrian Jones is available as well off the bench. No longer do the Jaguars have to address cornerback right away in the draft. Rather, they can let the board dictate who they pick.
Jaguars’ worst free agency move: Not adding to the defensive tackle position
Defensive tackle is arguably the Jaguars’ biggest need, but it remains untouched. Particularly down the stretch last season, the Jaguars struggled to generate a consistent pass rush from the interior. Overall, the Jacksonville defense ranked 18th in pressure rate and 27th in sacks in 2025.
In addition to that, the Jaguars are short on depth here. Arik Armstead, DaVon Hamilton, Matt Dickerson, Maason Smith, and Keivie Rose are the only tackles under contract currently.
So what options do the Jaguars have left to boost their interior pass rush?
Remaining free agent options include Calais Campbell, DJ Reader, and DaQuan Jones. In the draft, as ESPN’s Ben Solak highlighted recently, finding immediate impact help may not be easy, especially without a first-round pick.
Naturally, the longer one waits to address a need, the more difficult it can be to do so.
