March 19 (UPI) — Florida State kicker Conor McAneney was arrested in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on felony charges, including battery on an officer, police said Thursday.
Fort Lauderdale police arrested McAneney on Wednesday. He was still in the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail as of Thursday morning.
A Fort Lauderdale Police Department spokesperson said McAneney was arrested about 2:30 a.m. EDT Wednesday “following a trespassing incident” on South Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard.
“While FLPD officers were attempting to detain McAneney, he became uncooperative and violent,” the spokesperson said.
McAneney was transported to the Broward Health Medical Center as a precaution before being booked into the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail.
The 20-year-old is being held on $2,750 bond. He faces two third-degree felony charges — battery on officer and resisting an officer-obstruct with violence and a misdemeanor charge of trespassing in an occupied structure.
McAneney is from Plumbridge, Tyrone in Northern Ireland. He made 7 of 10 attempts last season while serving as kicker at Quincy University. McAneney signed with the Seminoles in January. The Seminoles also signed former Oklahoma State kicker Gabe Panikowski.
Former Florida State kicker Jake Weinberg, who made 12 of 19 field goal attempts and 46 of 46 extra point attempts last season for the Seminoles, transferred to Miami this off-season.
