Some sunny weather is on the way for South Florida this Spring Break, a welcome change from all the recent rainy days.
A “really slow warming trend” began Thursday and will push into the weekend, said George Rizzuto, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Miami. Highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s on Saturday and Sunday with lows in the lower 60s, he said.
“It’ll be a pretty nice weekend, we’re not expecting much rain at all,” he said.
Soon, “we’re really drying out,” Rizzuto said.
This should come as welcome news to the flocks of Spring Breakers who, earlier this week, were met with all-day rain and temperatures in the 50s and 60s.
Rizzuto cautioned beachgoers about the high risk for rip currents, suggesting people swim only at beaches with lifeguards.
As March comes to a close, the chances of South Florida experiencing significant temperature drops becomes increasingly rare, Rizzuto said.
March is “basically the last month that we’ll see any sort of temperature decrease from (cold fronts) or at least a significant temperature decrease. We’ll still have them into April, but they’ll be getting weaker and weaker, and they tend to start to stall out north of us rather than completely flush through the area.”
