Nearly $50 million worth of seized cocaine was offloaded at Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades on Thursday, U.S. Coast Guard officials said.
The 6,750 pounds of cocaine, worth around $49.3 million, was seized during two operations in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, officials said.
In one operation, on Feb. 7, an aircraft spotted and disabled a vessel that was carrying about 6,435 pounds of cocaine.
And on March 8, another vessel was disabled and stopped while carrying 130 pounds of cocaine.
The stops were part of Operation Pacific Viper, which launched in early August and had led to the seizure of over 200,000 pounds of cocaine and the apprehension of 150 suspected drug smugglers, officials said.
