TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – For the hundreds who bid on and were lucky enough to win a piece of Coach Bobby Bowden’s estate, Thursday and Friday are their chance to bring their treasures home during the auction loadout.
For one such winning bidder, though, his prize will stay right where it’s at.
Reagan Hobbs, an FSU alum and Tallahassee local, won the Bowden’s home on Shamrock Street North with a $670,000 winning bid. Hobbs says the feeling has stayed surreal since the words “you won” came up on his phone when the auction closed Tuesday afternoon.
“I had hundreds of people reaching out to me. Friends from my fraternity days at Florida State, different employees I’ve worked with, and they’re all just asking me about it,” Hobbs said. “Then I started getting random calls and text messages giving me stories about ‘when I was 11 I did this,’ ‘when I was 15 Coach Bowden did this for me,’ the stories just started unraveling.”
Bowden’s children, Ginger and Tommy, are among the well-wishers who have reached out to Hobbs.
The home’s buyer is still unsure of what specifically he’ll do with the property, but he’s hoping to commemorate the legacy of both Bobby and Ann, what they mean to the community, and beyond.
