The Sassagoula River that runs beside Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is getting a new boundary wall/levee installed. We spotted the work being done earlier today, March 19.
The river, which carries the Sassagoula River Cruise, appears to be getting a new boundary wall along its river banks. Today, while visiting the property, we spotted boundary wall materials stacked beside the riverbank.
Parts of the river wall appear untouched as of yet. We suspect they will be changed as well as the project progresses.
Other parts of the wall section have yellow floating turbidity barriers placed alongside them. Pieces of construction equipment were placed near one section of the wall.
These yellow floating turbidity barriers minimize sediment transport and protect the bank from erosion, as well as reduce the likelihood that construction materials and debris will enter the waterway. Stakes are in place behind the existing metal barriers. We can see that the top portion of the barriers has been removed from some of them, causing them to bow out or in, as seen above.
As of now, we have not seen any announcements about an interruption to the Sassagoula River Cruise service from Saratoga Springs or any of the other locations along the river: Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts (Riverside and French Quarter), Old Key West Resort, and Disney Springs.
