
CAPE CORAL, FL – In the early morning hours of Friday, March 20, 2026, Cape Coral Police officers arrested Koltin Troy Burns (DOB 3/16/2006) of Cape Coral after responding to a report of a vehicle burglary in progress on NE 18th Avenue.
Around 12:29 a.m., officers were dispatched after a resident reported seeing a male suspect attempting to open vehicle doors. Surveillance footage showed a man in a blue hoodie and light gray sweatpants entering multiple vehicles in the neighborhood.
Officers quickly set up a perimeter and issued a description. K‑9 units from the Cape Coral Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office assisted, with the track ending near a canal behind NE 18th Avenue. A police drone then located a male matching the description entering a residence on NE 17th Place, just across the canal from the scene. Officers identified the suspect as Koltin Troy Burns.
The investigation revealed that Burns used a kayak to cross the canal, burglarized several unlocked vehicles, and stole items including a wallet before fleeing back across the canal to his residence. Officers recovered wet clothing and a recently used kayak. Four victims were identified, with stolen property including a wallet and a tan Tory Burch purse valued at approximately $320.
Based on evidence and video footage, Burns was arrested and charged with the following:
