Cape Coral and Gateway are an even 4-4-2 against one another since February of 2023, but likely not for long. The two teams, after both having extra time off, will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cape Coral hasn’t scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

Cape Coral lost 9-1 to South Fort Myers last Thursday.

Cape Coral saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julious Sinboualay, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double. Sinboualay is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he’s now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he’s played.

Meanwhile, Gateway made easy work of Lehigh last Thursday and carried off an 11-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Anthony Medina was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Devyn Vitiello, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Gateway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The team’s really been improving in that area: they’ve now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

The win was their first at home, bumping their record up to 4-9. As for Cape Coral, they suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 6-8.

Gateway’s pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cape Coral has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. It’s a different story for Gateway, though, as they’ve only averaged .361. Will they be able to contain Cape Coral’s hitters?

Cape Coral got the ‘W’ in their previous meeting last Monday against Gateway by a conclusive 10-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Seahawks since the team won’t have the home-field advantage this time around. We’ll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
