ORANGE PARK, Fla. — The Orange Park Mall has announced that the ‘Spring Fling Carnival’ will not be opening Saturday due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook said there was a contract issue between the mall and the carnival, and that the carnival allegedly was “not following protocols as outlined.”

“Thank you for your understanding,” the mall said on Facebook. “We can’t wait to see you at our other upcoming spring events.”

Rumors had surfaced earlier this week of a possible teen takeover at the event.

A mall spokesperson told First Coast News they were unable to comment on what led up to the carnival’s cancellation.

A Clay County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson confirmed a shooting did not take place at the mall.

This is a developing story.
