Cooper Albers previews Monday’s NBA matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat.

Update: Devin Vassell listed as AVAILABLE for Monday’s contest

In the early 2010s, the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs met in back-to-back NBA Finals, sparking one of the most intense — albeit brief — rivalries of the decade. On Monday night, they meet again in South Beach, where LeBron James once took his talents, in the thick of a playoff race.

The Spurs (53–18, 2nd West) are the hottest squad in basketball, winning 21 of 23 games since the beginning of February, capped by Saturday’s 15-point rout of the Pacers. Meanwhile, the Heat (38–33, 9th East) have gone a streaky 12–9 over that stretch, following up a recent seven-game surge with four-straight losses.

The teams first met on October 30 in San Antonio, where the Spurs pulled away for a 107–101 victory and improved to 5–0 for the first time in franchise history.

Here’s a look at the Injury Report:

Spurs vs. Heat Preview

San Antonio Spurs Preview

It’s a bad time to play against the Spurs. Since the beginning of February, no team has a better record (21–2), higher offensive or net rating, or averages more points and assists per game than San Antonio. The team also ranks in the top five in defense and rebounding during that stretch.

While Devin Vassell could miss Monday’s contest, the Spurs’ dynamic backcourt remains loaded with depth, featuring two-time All-Star De’Aaron Fox, reigning rookie of the year Stephon Castle, and 2025 second overall pick Dylan Harper. Oh yeah — the franchise also boasts 7-foot-4 unicorn Victor Wembanyama, who’s averaging 24.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, and an NBA-leading three blocks in under 30 minutes per game.

Miami Heat Preview

While their 12–9 record may not show it, the Heat have sneakily been one of the NBA’s most formidable threats over the past two months. Operating at the fastest tempo in the league, Miami ranks sixth in offensive rating, fifth in assists, and third in scoring since the beginning of February. The squad has matched that intensity on the other end, sitting eighth in defense and second in rebounds over that span.

Like it or not, three-time All-Star Bam Adebayo is a serious problem for opposing teams on both ends of the floor, averaging 22 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest post-January — excluding his 83-point explosion. He’s flanked by sharpshooting guards Norman Powell and Tyler Herro, along with several additional contributors who can help put up points in a hurry.

Spurs vs. Heat Pick, Best Bet

It’s hard to find a matchup with a higher offensive ceiling than this one. Both the Spurs and Heat play fast and efficiently, each sitting in the NBA’s top three in points per game since the beginning of February — and clearing the over in seven of their last nine games, respectively. Expect fireworks from these two powerhouses Monday night in Miami.

Best Bet: Over 242.5 Points (-110)
