FBI Charlotte, Miami identify suspect in 38-year-old heist cold case

  • March 25, 2026

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) – An almost 40-year-old cold case featured on Unsolved Mysteries and America’s Most Wanted was solved, the Charlotte FBI field office said.

An FBI lab found that John Anthony Quinn was the suspect behind an armored car service heist in 1988, the agency announced on Tuesday, March 24.

Quinn–who also went by Dale Calvin Cluckey, Dale Clucke, Jack Quinn, James Sullivan, and died under the name Jim Klein-allegedly stole $1.3 million from the company vault at Federal Protection Service, an armored car service in Florida he was a manager at the time.

That same amount today would be worth more than $2.7 million.

He was wanted as a federal fugitive for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution by the FBI, and he was wanted by the state of Florida for first-degree grand theft.

He was identified from a fingerprint card.

Quinn died in December 2025 in Asheville, FBI officials said.
