6. New aviation maintenance technician program at MTC to begin in January
Manatee Technical College is taking off with a new program. Its aviation maintenance technician school is set to open in a few months, giving students hands-on training to repair and maintain aircraft.

RAYS END SPRING TRAINING | The Tampa Bay Rays wrapped up spring training on Tuesday, losing 3-2 to the Atlanta Braves in North Port and finishing with a record of 11-18. The team is off Wednesday and will start the regular season on Thursday at the St. Louis Cardinals, with first pitch set for 4:15 p.m. The Rays play their first nine games of the regular season on the road before returning to Tropicana Field on April 6.

TRAFFIC ALERT | The outside northbound lane on South 50th Street is closed between South 16th Avenue and South 20th Avenue while the Tampa Water Department conducts maintenance on the water distribution system. There will be barricades and signs in the area to help reroute traffic. The work is expected to be completed with a return to normal traffic patterns by 5 p.m., Friday, weather permitting.

ATTRACTIONS | Disney World’s 2026 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival is in full bloom. The vibrant festival runs through June 1. Attendees can enjoy character-themed topiaries, live entertainment and garden-inspired food and beverages at the popular event.
