Over 300 acres of a prescribed burn near Rock Springs Run State Reserve Park in Lake County is creating what is called a pyrocumulus cloud.According to WESH 2’s First Warning Meteorologist Cam Tran, the cloud was created by the fire. The winds are coming from west to east, pushing the smoke over Interstate 4, from Lake County, bringing the visibility and odors into Seminole and Orange County. If the ominous cloud over the fire began to produce lightning, it would then be classified as a pyrocumulonimbus cloud, also known as a pyroCb cloud. The difference between the two is that one produces lightning and those thunderstorm-like conditions, while the other does not. Right now, there is no lighting, making it a pyrocumulus cloud.
