Artistic dialogue turns into something resembling a visual volley in a new Ybor City exhibit.

Starting next week, Tempus Projects at the Kress Collective in Ybor City presents “Awkward Transactions,” a collaborative exhibition by photographer Wallace Wilson and painter Lisa McCarthy.

Wilson starts the conversation with large-scale photographs taken in everyday places, then McCarthy steps in with the “response,” painting directly onto the prints.

Rather than neatly finishing the images, McCarthy traces, interrupts and layers over Wilson’s photos, letting each piece evolve through the push and pull of mediums.

There is no cover for “Awkward Transactions,” which runs next Thursday, April 2 through May 28 at Tempus Projects in Ybor City.
