TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee man is facing theft charges after allegedly stealing over $65,000 from his former employer.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Jay Stewart previously worked at a Tallahassee electric company.
Arrest papers show Stewart’s former employer contacted law enforcement after a customer claimed they had paid their bill to Stewart through the Square app.

The business owner told investigators they do not use Square as a payment method.
According to arrest documents, several clients said they had paid Stewart through Square or checks. Those payments did not make it to the electric company, according to the business owner.
Stewart allegedly set up the Square payment and used jobs to direct funds to his own electric company. He is also accused of misusing the company credit card for purchases through his personal Amazon account.

Between October 2020 and February 2024, Stewart allegedly stole $66,045.06 from his former employer, according to arrest documents.
Stewart is charged with organized scheme to defraud, grand theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.
