Local band mourns passing of bandmate killed in collision with Target building

  • March 25, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A local band is mourning the passing of a bandmate after he was killed in a Target store collision on Saturday morning, according to previous reporting.

Tallahassee Police confirmed the victim’s identity on Wednesday as Xavier Guevara.

The victim was part of a local band called “Curly Q.” The band posted a statement on social media.

It’s with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved friend and guitarist Xavier, he was one of the kindest people to have ever walked this planet. His absence in this world will not go unoticed for this is a loss we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. We’ll be taking some time to process and figure out what’s next for the band but I think it’s safe to say we won’t continue without hi. We love you Xavi.

According to the band’s website, they perform early 2000s punk rock with modern emotional depth.

“Drawing inspiration from Green Day, Modern Baseball, and Mom Jeans., Curly Q delivers punchy chord progressions, dynamic harmonies, and a blend of angst-ridden yet hopeful lyrics, making them stand out in today’s punk scene,” per the Curly Q website.

More Tallahassee news:

The collision happened just before 2 a.m. Saturday at the Target store on West Tennessee Street, according to previous reporting.

Tallahassee Police said on Saturday that they were investigating a single-vehicle crash with “serious injuries.” They confirmed on Monday that the driver, later identified as Guevara, died at the scene.

The crash caused portions of the parking lot to close temporarily that day.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the cause of the crash is unknown.

The Guevara family has reportedly started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help bring Guevara’s belongings home to Virginia.
