Press release from Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd
TALLAHASSEE, FLA. — Secretary of State Cord Byrd announced today that Florida’s History Shop, the retail store for the Museum of Florida History, is seeking proposals from Florida-based artists to sell their Florida-themed artwork in the store. Florida’s History Shop is seeking original pieces that evoke a sense of Florida’s history, environment, or wildlife; or artworks that use a traditional skill learned in Florida. Types of artwork that may be considered include, but are not limited to, textiles, paintings, jewelry, porcelain, or woodwork.
“The Florida Department of State is pleased to provide opportunities for Florida artists to have their work available for sale at Florida’s History Shop locations in Tallahassee and online,” said Secretary of State Cord Byrd. “As the Florida Department of State celebrates America’s 250th anniversary next year, we are excited to provide customers with unique, Florida-inspired merchandise that represents the history and natural beauty of our state.”
Florida’s History Shop works with many sellers through consignment agreements with a 60/40 payment split between the seller and Florida’s History Shop. The price range of consigned artwork should be between $50–$500. Interested artists should contact Jennafer Henderson, store manager, at MFHgiftshop@dos.fl.gov or by phone at 850.245.6375 by December 12, 2025. Florida’s History Shop has locations in the Florida Historic Capitol Museum and The Capitol. The online store can be accessed at FloridasHistoryShop.com. Proceeds from sales support the education programs of the Museum of Florida History, Florida’s official state history museum. Acceptance of artwork on consignment is at the sole discretion of the Florida Department of State.
