Cape Coral City Council agreed to move forward with plans to design a new park in northeast Cape Coral, part of a series aimed at addressing a gap in access to neighborhood parks.
At their regular meeting March 25, council members approved $434,800 for engineering design services by Johnson Engineering LLC for the park at 2224 NE 15th St.
The design does not include construction, which is expected to occur next year, pending City Council funding approval.
The NE 15th Street park is the first of six planned neighborhood parks, a staff report shows, set to be designed and built on city-owned parcels between fiscal years 2025 and 2036.
The Cape’s 2016 Parks Master Plan identified the parks service gap and a goal that all residents live within at least one to two miles of a neighborhood park.Â
