Law enforcement with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) confirmed one person has died following a Saturday morning vessel accident in Biscayne Bay.
The accident occurred north of the Nixon Beach sandbar, officials said.
During the emergency response, traffic lanes were modified to allow emergency and police vehicles through the area.
FWC officers responded to reports of an accident in which two adults — a man and a woman — were ejected from an undisclosed watercraft.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews recovered both victims from the water and transported them to a local hospital for treatment. The female victim later died from her injuries.
Some Key Biscayne residents contacted Islander News after seeing a helicopter and multiple emergency vehicles near Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. FWC Public Information Officer George Reynaud said rescue operations may begin or end at a safe location where boats can be deployed.
Reynaud described the situation as “a very active scene” as of 11:30 a.m., but said authorities could not confirm whether a boat or Jet Ski was involved.
A witness inside the park told Islander News that FWC vessels were entering No Name Harbor slowly during the response.
